The Karnataka CET 2010 brochure was released by the Minister of Higher Education Aravind Limbavalli yesterday, but for the first time the brochure will not contain the seat matrix or the fee structure for medical colleges. There is a demand of nearly 1.35 lack brochures this year and all of them will have only the Engineering college fee structure and seat matrix.
Follow up:
The lack of the seat matrix is because KEA has still not decided on the final seat structure for Medical and dental colleges. The delay was caused due to the prolonged argument over continuing CET and COMED-K exams side by side. KEA wanted the COMED-K exams to be merged with Karnataka CET. Since Karnataka CET does not cater to non Karnataka students, the proposal was met with stiff resistance from COMED-K. Such a merger would make it very difficult for non Karnataka students to apply for engineering and medical seats in colleges all over Karnataka.
The government also said it will be announcing the rank list for poor and meritorious students. They also announced that students who get ranks up to 20,000, in engineering, in the coming CET, will be able to select seats in engineering colleges for Rs 15,000 (plus miscellaneous charges). This option, however is available to only those students who have an annual family income of less than 2 lacks. Such students will also be required to produce income certificates at the time of seat selection.
Decisions, like free CET coaching and lower fee structure, made by the government and KEA have shows the support that is needed in bring opportunities to the underprivileged students. This is just another addition to the efforts made by the authorities to help students.
