Barely a month after the PUC board opened up its phone lines to students, it's SSLC's turn now.The helpline was inaugurated by Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Mr. Visweshwara Hegde Kageri at KSEEB (Karnataka State Secondary Education Examination Board). The decision to provide counselling was made after educators observed the stress and pressure exams put on students.
In a system similar to what the PUC board had set up, the questions will be answered by experts from the three categories, into which questions are divided. There will be experts on administration, content and psychology addressing all the question that students have to ask. For answering psychological question, like retaining what a student studies and dealing with the stress, SSLC has solicited the help of experts from Nimhans and an NGO, Sa-Mudra. There are also administration experts to address query about changing centres and medium of the exam and the experts on content will answer the questions that are related to exam pasterns and question papers.
It was also reported that the line will be open from 3pm to 5pm 6 days a week except on Sunday and other holidays. Herein lies one small problem. Even though the gesture is a good one and will be immensely helpful one can't help but wonder why the lines are kept open only for 2 hours. When you have thousands of students calling, seeking answers, you really can't hope to answer all of them in 2 hours. The best practice would be to increase it to at least 4 hours a day so that all the students have a fair chance of getting to speak to the experts.
Students seeking help can call on 080 23312244 or 080 23312245 to get in touch with the experts.
