One of the most common complaints students have to make is that they fail to memorise their subjects which makes you wonder what the problem is. The problem is the lack of association of the words. When students try to memorise line after line without actually associating it with anything, they tend to forget what they have studied. In simpler terms, this is known as mugging.

Follow up:

Inschool we are told to either write with a blue pen or a black one however if you use different colours while makiing notes you will tend to remember more of what you study. This video eplains how association can help improve the memory and the results.
